AFFORDABLE ELEGANCE

in HISTORIC SANTA BARBARA

This 2,800-square-foot duplex demonstrates that affordability and architectural character need not be opposing goals. The design embodies the austere elegance of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture—the style emblematic of Santa Barbara's historic identity. Clay tile roofing, textured stucco walls, brick masonry accents, and a stone base create the refined simplicity that defines the city's architectural heritage. The project is designed to meet Santa Barbara's rigorous Design Review standards while pioneering an innovative construction approach.

The duplex comprises two attached manufactured homes, each shipped on standard flatbeds and craned into place. Once positioned, quality craftsmen apply traditional exterior finishes, transforming prefabricated structures into buildings that harmonize seamlessly with their historic neighborhood context. This marriage of modern efficiency and traditional craft offers a path toward badly needed infill housing without compromising the architectural integrity that makes Santa Barbara distinctive—proving that beauty, affordability, and community character can advance together.
