Alles & Blumm Architects is a design practice founded on the belief that great architecture emerges from synthesis. We balance traditional wisdom and contemporary demands, client objectives and professional expertise, enduring principles and contextual response.

Partners Patrick Alles and Andrew Blumm bring complementary backgrounds to their collaboration. Patrick’s classical training provides fluency in proportion, precedent, and the discipline of historical rigor. Andrew contributes a broad stylistic range, an anthropological approach to design, and deep insight into how people actually use buildings. Together, we work across classical, vernacular, and contemporary expressions—sometimes all of the above. Our design philosophy is unbound by aesthetic categorization. This is not stylistic wandering, but rather a principled refusal to let ideology override the needs of a particular project, site, or community.

A PROCESS BUILT ON LISTENING

We thoughtfully translate what clients and stakeholders envision but may not yet have the vocabulary to articulate. Our work is principal-led throughout; no handoffs, no rotating teams, no disappearing after the pitch. We work with you to elevate goals and ideas into architecture that harmonizes beauty and craftsmanship with your programmatic requirements, operational needs, and budget realities.

With offices in Santa Barbara and Boise, our practice takes on liturgical, institutional, and residential projects for clients who understand that buildings carry meaning and who want collaborators, not dictators. The result is architecture grounded in tradition, designed to endure, and shaped by the people it serves.
